Photo Shoot at Rocket Bakery with Maddie Mills Photography

A lot of work goes into creating a wedding show display, so we made a last minute decision to take full advantage of the design work and we called on our vendor friends to help. Once the wedding show was over, we moved all of our decor down to the Rocket Room where the lovely staff at Rocket Bakery welcomed us and even contributed some delicious treats for the shoot the next day.

We enlisted the help of Maddie Mills Photo to capture the details of our fresh green and yellow color scheme and invited Nadia Ali Hair & Make-up Artistry to participate. Nadia also modeled for us, along with Janine’s little girl Peyton who came down after school to play dress up. It was such a fun day and we’re so glad our vendor friends all jumped at the chance to help us create a little bit of magic… here is the result:

We are very lucky to have great relationships with so many of the amazing people in the wedding industry here in Newfoundland. We love working at Rocket, and we always enjoy the opportunity to work with Maddie Mills and Nadia Ali – nothing but good things to say about this fantastic group of vendors!

Check out our Facebook page for another recent photo shoot we did with Maddie & Nadia 😉

The Bungalow in Bowring Park

This weekend past we decorated a gorgeous wedding at The Bungalow in Bowring Park – it’s always nice to work with our friends at Red Oak Catering at this charming venue. Here are some photos we took with our new camera…

We designed this custom sign with a lovely fresh floral garland accent and must confess… we love the way it turned out. Greenery is definitely one of our favourite trends of 2017 and we’d be perfectly happy if this trend stuck around forever! 🙂

Our floral designer knocked it outta the park with this bouquet – so pretty!

Sweet little boutonniere for the groom

Fresh floral… is there anything better?

Pub tables like to get all dressed up too!

#makeitpretty!

Beautiful floral compote

Our lace overlays look lovely on top of our champagne tablecloths

Clean, sparkling glass!

The Bungalow fireplace – from drab to fab!

Have we mentioned how much we love candlelight?

It’s all about the details! We say that a lot… but it’s true 🙂

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

This wedding came together quickly and easily. All of the coordination with Valerie and Julian took place while they were on another continent – within just two months of them contacting us for the first time! They were truly a pleasure to communicate with and we loved having some creative freedom to run with their ideas. Thanks you two!

Gotta say, it’s great to be getting back to our summer routine with wedding season in full swing, despite our ongoing displacement from our home base in Churchill Square. We are making it work and have some plans for a temporary solution – stay tuned! 🙂

Our Wedding Day

It’s taken awhile to compile this blog post. Of all the weddings By Sharpe Design has helped put together, this August 2016 wedding is very near and dear to my heart – it is my own! It truly was the most special day of my life. There are SO many amazing images to choose from, many of which captured the love and happiness we felt that day from our family and friends. Maria Hillier Photography was an absolute pleasure to have around us. She did such an excellent job and even brought in help from Ashley Anne Photography and Krista Kavanagh Photography to ensure that every single detail was captured. This was not only important to John and I, but also to the whole team at By Sharpe Design because pretty little details are exactly what we’re all about!

In this line of work, finding a weekend in the middle of the summer to get married wasn’t a possibility. After a seven month engagement, we got married on a Tuesday in early August, the eve of The Royal St. John’s Regatta. Talk about a game of Regatta Roulette! Following a very busy work weekend, John and I, along with helpers, spent the Monday before our wedding laying the groundwork for the set-up. The day itself could not have come together without the help of our amazing families, friends, and the BSD team… thank you for letting me take off my “work hat” for the day, allowing me to relax and enjoy it. I truly did!

It was a little odd for me to be on the side of bride, and not busily behind the scenes – talk about a new perspective! Having the décor, floral and stationery all created by our team at By Sharpe Design definitely helped to keep things organized and cohesive. There are so many details to consider & coordinate when planning a wedding, and they were all important to me, right down to the position of the pretty place cards to ensure a comfortable time for our guests.

There are so many people to thank, including the gals I work with every day. With four events on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before our Tuesday wedding, we certainly had our hands full and sure did put this together at the last minute! Planning everyone else’s wedding and event seemed to always take priority over this one, but we pulled it off! Special thanks to our friend Ellen, who took on the task of creating our incredible centerpieces and helping with set-up. Such an amazing team effort!

Father Ray Earle and the late Father John Maddigan made the ceremony service quite special. We feel doubly blessed to have had them marry us.

The food and service provided by Red Oak Catering was incredible. We have worked with them many, many times over our time in business and they are always great to have as team mates. They truly go above and beyond … and really did on this day. Thank you for being so organized, professional, easy to deal with and comfortable to have around. The cool day was a challenge with a buffet line outside with threatening rain, but everyone got through quickly and raved about the meal.

Our delicious and beautiful dessert table was provided by Petite Sweet. We love working with these ladies – not only are they as sweet as their desserts, they’re also as diligent and detailed as our By Sharpe Design team strives to be. As you can see from the pictures, the desserts are exquisite and everyone will agree that they taste just as good as they look!

The Dana Parsons Band had us dancing all night! So much energy and so much fun. Despite the cool afternoon and evening, we are sure everyone kept warm on the dance floor. We sure had a time as they say.

After my experience as a bride, I can say that I strongly recommend hiring experienced, diligent vendors to execute the various parts of the day. It will help ensure you are happy, rested, relaxed and ready to focus on the most important thing – the celebration of your marriage. The day goes so, so fast and you want to be able to soak up every minute.

We truly did have a fantastic day. Hope you enjoy the photos!

~Sue

We also snapped a few pictures of the ceremony & reception set-up, shown in the next two galleries (you will surely be able to tell the difference from the pro pics!) First we have some shots of the ceremony which we snapped just after setting up…

And then we re-staged the room for the Reception and took a few pictures of that as well…

The snow is starting to come down out there, stay cozy and enjoy your weekend everyone!

A September Wedding – Photographed by Maria Hillier

This wedding took place at The Bungalow in Bowring Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in September. The ceremony took place outdoors with a cocktail reception immediately following inside. This is just one example of how to use bolder colours in a soft and pretty way.

Don’t you love the ladder they built for the ceremony backdrop? It looks so sweet accented with the fresh floral we provided. Thanks so much to Maria Hillier for sharing these beautiful images with us!

If you are a local photographer or a former client and would like to be featured on our blog, please leave us a comment here and we will be in touch.

Have a great weekend!

Lana & Jon’s Wedding at YellowBelly

We loved every little thing about this August wedding at YellowBelly Brewery, let’s skip right to the pictures!

First we have some gorgeous photos captured by the talented team at Wild & Heart Photography…

Next we’re delighted to share the beautiful desserts created by Petite Sweet for Lana & Jon. We were especially smitten with the shortbreads that Maria hand-decorated based on the custom dessert cards and other paper products we designed for this reception. Absolutely stunning work by Maria & Genny, as always.

Here are a few other photos we snapped quickly of the room decor and floral after we finished setting up…

We welcome submissions from our clients, if you would like to connect us with your photographer and be featured here on our blog or website gallery. Our focus is primarily on the weddings where we have provided full service decor & floral 🙂

Also, if you’re a local newlywed you should check out Styled in Lace, an east coast wedding blog that features weddings in the Atlantic provinces! Ask your photographer for permission to submit your un-watermarked photos and you just might get featured.
